macOS Markup – How to Copy an Image from Screenshot’s Markup

macosmarkup

When I capture a screenshot with Cmd + Shift + 5, I can edit the image within Apple's Markup editor, like so:

Is there a way to copy that image (which may have been edited) without saving it?

I just need to be able to copy it within that interface, so I can delete it clicking in the trash icon in the upper-right corner.

It appears you can just hit cmdc while in the Markup editor and it copies it to your clipboard!

So summary of steps:

  • cmdshift5
  • Move the little capture box around, resize as desired, then hit return
  • Click the little preview image in the bottom right of your screen
  • Mark up the image as desired
  • Click somewhere, in a non-marked up area, to unselect any markups currently selected
  • cmdc
  • Hit the trash can icon to make it go away, without saving
  • cmdv it somewhere to paste it.

I used these steps just now to paste this image:

I am on Mojave/10.14. I came here looking for the same thing. I happened to find this comment on Reddit that suggested this.
