MacOS – How many worldwide average system processes and minimum process runs in Mac OS X

As I can check system processes in activity monitor, it is around 76 process running in my mac.
As I assume if number of running system processes increases then it impacts on Mac speed.
If number of running system processes is high then Mac speed will poor , if it is nearest to average running process then Mac speed can be fair , if it minimum then speed will be excellent
Can anyone recommend or help me to identify that least number of system process and average system process runs in Mac.

Your assumption about inferring total system performance from the number of running processes is incorrect. There is no such direct correlation.

The underlying operating system easily scales to thousands of (idle) processes without any noticeable effect on system performance on a modern Mac. Therefore it makes no sense to spend effort on reducing the number of processes as such.

Testing seems to show that the culprit is Intel's Turbo Boost technology, which disables processor cores on the fly without telling the OS. Since they aren't running the CPU idle process, activity monitor doesn't account for them, and it appears that the machine is under 50% idle when the reality is that it's near 100% idle.

Turbo boost is built into many Core i7 and i5 processors, and some of the latest Core i3 processors. You will have to check your processor version against intel's list of Turbo Boost capable processors to find out if yours has it. If you don't have sandy bridge, you probably don't have turbo boost.

According to Apple Support page your mac is capable of running Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Mac computer with an Intel processor
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space
DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

Also considering Apple policy in supplying security updates, I would recommend you to update (all the care in taking backup of your documents apply). At this page there is a list of security updates, and the last one for 10.5 was in 2012.
