MacOS – File Open dialog freezing on macOS 10.12

I recently updated my macbook pro to macos 10.12. After I'm facing a lot of problems with file access.

Whenever I try to save or open a file, the "File Open" dialog comes after 30-60 seconds. Till then I'll not able to do anything on the application. But other apps work fine.
File->Open Recent is also taking the same amount of time. I've no option other than waiting for it load.
Whenever I try to drag and drop a file it is not easier. As mentioned even this takes same time.

I think the above problems are associated with a common issue in the OS. Please let me know if you have any solutions.

The issue seems to be associated with iCloud drive. Here are two steps to resolve.

I seem to have resolved the freezing dialog box problem by disabling iCloud Drive. I have been experiencing what seem to be exactly the same problems, even after two fresh Sierra installs.
If you don't want to disable iCloud drive, use Finder-> Preferences-> Sidebar- Disable iCloud drive to remove the iCloud option on the Finder sidebar.

I had a similar issue. I moved the files:

com.apple.finder.plist
com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

out of

~/Library/preferences

And then "turned it off and on again", ie. restarted. This fixed the issue for me.

My hunch from looking at the crash log was that it was somehow choking on Finder itself (the logs in Console.app reported the key found to be null was "dateModified"), and that some sort of corrupt settings were to blame.

It turns out that the issue here was a failing SATA cable. It hadn't totally kicked the bucket, hence the computer could still boot and run fairly normally from the internal hard drive. I believe the intermittent lag was caused by the faulty cable.

The good news is, replacing it was easy (albeit a little pricey at $40). It's only a few more steps than removing a hard drive, and iFixit has a nice guide for anyone who has this problem.

Be sure you know it's the SATA cable before replacing it. I ruled out the hard drive and logic board like this:

Hard Drive - I tested my hard drive in another Macbook. You could also try a USB enclosure or, in a pinch, remove your optical drive and try it there.
Logic Board - I installed OS X on a USB drive and booted from it. Performance was normal (expect it to be a little slower).

If you have a USB enclosure for your internal drive, you can rule these both out at once.
