MacOS – Erased disc incorrectly now I have “Apple ssd ap0128J Media” instead of Macintosh HD and broken software

The problem with the upgrade script is the timing only estimates how long it takes for Apple's software to install.

You can (and should) open the log file while upgrading/installing and press Command-3 to show all logs, not just the errors.

You can see that during this "about a second" it's really migrating user files and handling all the things you've brought to the Mac that isn't part of the base system.

Basically, let it run as long as you can stand - especially if the log file shows progress being made. If progress isn’t being made, consider connecting to the internet via a wired connection if possible or making sure the wireless network is operational before interrupting what looks to be a paused or stopped installation.

It is likely that the drive is toast. Disk utility is designed to see everything on any bus that looks like a drive.

You could try zapping the PRAM, or as the kids call it these days, "resetting the SMC." Google will help you find instructions for that.

Failing that you could try putting the internal drive in an external enclosure, which will mostly tell you if there is something wrong with your internal bus. There is a slim chance that this will work, allow you to format the drive and put it back in the Mac and it will work. Depends on how skilled you are with hacking around in the hardware and how much time and effort you want to put into it to test a long shot.
