Are there any editors or notes applications out there that support Markdown?
I am often having to make notes or documents where markdown formatting would be ideal, and have gotten into the habit of using markdown on a daily basis.

You can also use pandoc:
pandoc -f markdown -t docx file.md -o file.docx
One advantage compared to textutil is that the output uses paragraph styles. You can also use styles from an existing file with --reference-docx file.docx.
Use Activity Monitor
Just open Activity Monitor (Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor) and navigate to the Network tab. You'll be able to see which apps are sending/receiving data and how much per app/process.

nvALT does the trick. I prefer the plain Notational Velocity myself, but Markdown fans seem to really like the nvALT fork.
