MacOS – disable screensaver

I stop my computer from sleeping by going into System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter and sliding "Turn display off after:" to 'Never'.

But after a long time the mac screensaver turns on and I have to type my password to get back into the computer.

How do I stop that from happening?

I want my computer to forever stay as I left it, and not start screensavers or log me out or anything.

From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences…, then click Desktop & Screen Saver. Click the Screen Saver tab. Then set Start after: to: Never

If the option is grayed out:

The system administrator has set the screensaver timeout. You can't change it without removing the profile, which will probably cause you to lose network access.

The same thing happens to me in 10.9. I also tried changing require password to wake of security preferences and putting displays to sleep instead of starting a screen saver:

tell application "System Events"
    set require password to wake of security preferences to true
    --start screen saver "Random"
    do shell script "pmset displaysleepnow"
    delay 5
    set require password to wake of security preferences to false
end tell

Neither of them helped though.

You might log out to the fast user switching screen instead of locking the screen though:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu\ Extras/User.menu/Contents/Resources/CGSession -suspend

Had the same problem in my Macbook(15") pro running 10.9.4.

I wanted my Mac to be locked while I was away (so configured hot corners) but at the same time did not want it to sleep (irrespective of whether it is connected to power or not) so that my wifi will be "ON" always for my jabber & mails. So here's what I did to prevent Mac from sleeping:

Open Terminal
Run sudo pmset -a sleep 0

Explanation of the command:

pmset command is to manipulate power management settings.
-a specifies that the setting applies for all conditions (power & battery)
sleep configure system sleep timer
0 to disable
