MacOS – Deleting an App that refuses to go away

I have been trying to delete the United Airlines app from my iPad because I won't be needing it anytime soon. I thought I had successfully deleted it but a gray version keeps reappearing. I've deleted the gray version several times with no success.

What can I do to delete it permanently?

I usually do the same thing when installing or deleting stalls, put the device in airplane mode, turn off WiFi, turn off Bluetooth and power it down.

When it starts, delete the app, then enable communications as desired.

When that fails, it’s easy to collect diagnostic information and send to Apple, but usually it’s a stuck network or storage issue that starting with a clean OS start in trolls whatever process was jammed.

Due to the way iOS sandboxes apps, when you delete an app, it along with its data are gone. The only remains are in the App Store purchase history. The iOS security means you can't easily undelete these files via a jailbreak - so if you want to ensure the data gets securely erased, you should erase all contents and settings which will either destroy the key used to encrypt.

Don't forget to delete the app from iTunes on any computers you have and then make a backup of your iPad with the app deleted. That gets rid of two other potential copies of the app.

The game is probably just buggy. You can tell the developer and make sure to mention what iDevice you have, its iOS version, and specifically what the bug is.

Try deleting interactively to avoid deleting too much since these characters match one or many/no characters - you can answer y or n as needed as each file comes up for deletion...

e.g.

sudo rm -i 2011.09.0?*

If you can't get the wildcard right, move everything else out of the folder in question, go one directory level up and rm -r <foldername>.
