Is there a setting to delete the last word using the command key and backspace?
Currently this combination of keys deletes the current line. Instead, I want to delete the last word (before the cursor).
How can I do that natively (without any other apps, if possible)? Is there a terminal command to run or maybe an option somewhere?
In the terminal I use Ctrl + w, but I'm interested how to do that in UI apps (browser, and other non-terminal applications).
Make the contents of your ~/Library/KeyBindings/DefaultKeyBinding.dict look like the text below

"@\U007F" = "deleteWordBackward:"; /* delete backwards one word */
}
Once you restart any Cocoa app, this will now just delete one word to the left of the cursor instead of everything between the beginning of the line and the cursor.
⌘← can be assigned to \eOH and ⌘→ to \eOF. You could assign ⌥← to \eb like in Terminal, but it doesn't work in vi mode or nano.
In emacs mode you could also add this to .inputrc:
"\e[1;9D": backward-word
"\e[1;9C": forward-word
"\e[3~": kill-word
C-v shows the escape sequence for the next key combination. ^[ is ESC in caret notation. bind -p prints currently bound commands.
