I have an old Canon CanoScan FS4000US Slide Scanner. I have connected it via USB to an Intel iMac running Mac OS 10.7.5, and in System Report, I can see that it is connected. Also, when I disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, the slide tray ejects on the scanner. What I would like to know is if there is any way to mount the scanner properly as a device so that it will be available in Image Capture. I downloaded VueScan, a third-party software, that is able to see the device and process a scan, so there must be some way to get the drivers to see the device in Image Capture. Any ideas?

Harv, This is not the answer you want to hear. I went with the Brother printer/scanner models because it was clear that the HP drivers that they supply to Apple often do not support network scanning (there may be a few exceptions). The Brother drivers do.
The other recommendation I have seen is to use the drivers that come with the OS, not the installable ones. In some cases, it seems that the scan works when the installables are not present.
Also, if the printer has SMB sharing, that sometimes needs to be turned on (usually only available on the higher end models with hard drives).

It looks like some old saved settings were causing the scanner to hang indefinitely - pressing scan over and over wasn't working.
I pressed the show details button a few times but didn't realize things were working slowly in the background. After a minute or so - I was able to get into the details, change some settings, and it has been working well.
Those TWAIN errors are not logging now either. Life is good again in Lion scan land.

Have you tried installing this comprehensive Apple Canon Printer/Scanner driver set? I dont have an FS400US I can test this with but its worth a shot.
