How can I change the profile of my current iTerm2 session?
If I click Profiles and select one, it opens a new session instead of changing the current one.

iTerm2 can set itself as the default SSH handler. In its preferences, go to “Profiles”. Create a profile to handle SSH sessions, or select an existing one. In the “General” section, bottom right, you can select which URL scheme this profile should handle:

That feature is based on the current directory. For example command-clicking untitled\ folder works here:
$ cd Desktop; ls
untitled\ folder
But not here:
$ cd; ls Desktop
untitled\ folder

You have to "Edit" the session.
The easiest way to do this is to right click on anywhere on the open iTerm2 window, select Edit Session... A Preferences pane will appear and under the General tab, look for the Profile Name selection box. Double click on your desired profile.
