For some reason app store simply does not work:
Solutions like:
- reset NVRAM;
- remove com.apple.appstore.plist, com.apple.storeagent.plist and then restart,
did not solve the problem.
Does anyone know other possible solutions?

It looks like Apple updated the code to detect which client you are when connecting to the app store. I checked and they have script that called a function its.detect.Itunes which detects what browser and operating system you are on, and if it isnt Safari, the link does not return an app store link.
Interestingly it does seem to have handlers for chrome and firefox, but either they made a mistake or they are purposefully making it so you cannot use Firefox to one click browse the mac app store.
I checked if switching firefox's user agent worked, and while it did load the page momentarily, and the function clearly had a anchor link instead of a direct href, it immediately redirects to a blankly loading page forever.
At this point it looks like it is probably safari or bust.
I'm not aware of a specific problem with this, but generally when I have an issue of an App running slow, I blame corrupt cache/preference files. What I would recommend is using an App like AppZapper. You can use a free trail from: http://www.appzapper.com/downloads/appzapper.dmg which will last for 10 "zaps"
I would recommend you drag App Store.app into AppZapper, and delete all files BUT App Store.app. Do so by UNCHECKING THE BOX beside App Store.app. On the next launch of the Mac App Store, it'll recreate these (possible corrupt) preference/cache files and hopefully fix your slowness problem :)

TLDR: If you can browse the web with Firefox or Chrome, but not with Safari, then adjusting your network settings might fix both Safari and the App Store. Start by looking at proxy settings.
I'm hoping you found a solution by now. Just in case this helps anyone, I'm going to share what worked for me. I had no problem browsing the web with Firefox or Chrome, but the App Store just showed a grey window like the screenshot in the original post.
During troubleshooting, I discovered that Safari couldn't connect to any web servers. This suggested that the problem had something to do with the Mac's network settings. I opened the network settings, selected my network adapter, clicked Advanced, went to the Proxies tab, and unchecked Automatic Proxy Configuration. That fixed everything.
