I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012 and one of its RAM slots appears to have been damaged (The computer restarts when moved too much). So I can only have one RAM module in it. I was reading on Apple's website for changing RAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201165#1.
They state that my computer is only able to have a maximum of 8GB RAM.
My question is, can I have a single RAM module with 8GB instead of 2x 4GB RAM modules as they mention on the website?
Your Macbook Pro supports only 8GB (15'') or 6GB (17'') of RAM.
Apple states that it's 4GB, but OWC continuously check the max. supported RAM.

It should work, but it's not recommended.
You should always use the same module, also I believe that way you got some performance benefit. MacRumors has a post about this.
Also, I believe your MacBook Pro won't support more than 8 GB of RAM according to the post, but that I'm not sure. Check out Apple's guide or technical documents for these information.
Another thing to be aware of is if your machine supports 8 GB on a single stick.
This is what I suggests. Buy two matching 4 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM for your MacBook Pro. That way, you won't get into any trouble. It might cost a little more, but it's much more reliable.

For the MacBook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2012, Apple only officially supports 8 GB RAM, 2 - 204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM; however, it can actually support 16 GB. So in theory you should be able to use a single 8 GB PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
