MacBook – New MacBook Pro won’t wake from sleep without restart

My girlfriend's new MacBook Pro will sometimes seem not to wake up from sleep. No amount of spacebar hits, enters, clicks, etc. seem to awake the computer. She's resorted to hard restarting the computer which is obviously not ideal.

It seems to happen regardless of its state as it goes to sleep (closed lid, idle).

Anyone else hear of this or have any ideas?

This is a common problem and is caused by the EFI being out of date. To fix this simple download and install MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.9

It is possible to determine what caused the system to wake

Open Console (/Applications/Utilities/Console)
Set the search filter to 'wake'

You're looking for the latest entry that has something like this:
```
Wake reason = EC LID0
```
(In the example above, opening the display clamshell caused the machine to be woken)

This should shed some light on what is waking the machine, then you can go from there.

Long delay on this answer, but since there were no other ideas, I'll answer with what I've done.

I simple unplug the monitor every night before putting the computer to sleep. Not anything fancy or technical, but it works for me.
