MacBook Pro Battery – Can It Be Charged After Years of Inactivity?

I have a MacBook that requires a MagSafe charger, but my charger broke in mid 2016. My MacBook was holding 40%+ charge and no longer being charged. I am wondering if I can still charge it today? If yes, I am going to order a charger online.

There's no other way to find out than to try it.

In general there's nothing that says that a battery must stop working because it hasn't been charged in two years - batteries like those really age more due to heavy use rather than lying around on a shelf. So unless something bad happened to the computer or the battery over those two years, it is probably going to work just fine.

Your battery is ignored somehow, and your Macbook uses power directly from the MagSafe adapter. If you couldn't even use the Macbook with the cable in it, the cable could be the problem. Since it works with cable-attached, it's not.

It should not be on a "new" MBA but it is possible.

Reset your SMC (System management Controller) that has to to with Battery and charging.

Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option(alt) keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

If no sucess bring or send it back for repair.
