I have a MacBook Pro Early 2011 model A1278 which wasn't turning on, then I bought a new battery and it ran just fine. But the charger isn't charging it up (the charger is also fine, I tested in another MBP). I tried to reset SMC, NVRAM and cleaned the charging port, but nothing happened.
Now the battery just died (0%) and I don't know what to do, since I can't charge it up. Is there anything I can do to make it work?

In the absence of a repair shop to run diagnostics, you might try isolating things in the following order:
As you remove items, you remove causes of failure. The mac should still POST and beep if everything listed is taken away from the mac. Often, it's an odd part that is causing a failure of the system to charge or drawing too much power when these isolate the issue. In reality, it's likely the DC in board or main logic board, which means it's good you have warranty to cover that eventuality. Do use prudence in doing the above steps, you don't want to physically damage things and run the risk of warranty service being denied due to external damage or someone not technically capable doing work on your mac.
Even if you don't do all of the steps, you can rule out a few more things than you listed initially in the question. Also, Apple service providers will possibly be able to revert your firmware or at least confirm you have a working firmware install as well as be faster to isolate the cause than most consumers doing the steps listed above as they are set up to do this day in and day out.
Technically speaking, you should be using the L-shaped adapter.
As to why it's working with the "incorrect" adapter and not the correct one is because the pins on the MagSafe connector are probably pushed "in" or just contaminated. Additionally, the pins on the T connector stick out just a bit further than the L connector.
You may have some luck cleaning out the MagSafe connector, but in my experience, you have to replace it.
You have a few options:
Replacing the DC-in board is not "difficult" inasmuch as being tedious and detailed. It involves removing the logic board because the connector is under it; iFixit has excellent step-by-step guide.
If this is not your cup of tea, I would simply continue using the adapter that works.

It appears that you didn't fix the original problem which was why your MBP wasn't turning on in the first place - your battery wasn't charging so you had a dead battery.
You have already verified that...
Now, it seems that since the battery has gone to 0% and the charger is plugged in, your MBP is dead, correct?
That means you Mag Safe DC In board is most likely shot.
This is fairly simple to fix (I am assuming you changed your own battery). iFixit.com has an excellent tutorial on how to replace this component. The good news is that this component is fairly inexpensive ($11 on Amazon).
