I've been trying to set up my iMessage account so that I can receive my texts and messages to my computer. I've set up my iCloud, and my AIM, and my FaceTime, but I can't figure out how to set up my iMessage, any help?

One way you will get the red contacts is if the iMessages account is not enabled.
Go to iMessages's preferences. And make sure the enabled check box is ticked.
You Will also get the red contacts if you are not signed in. If that is the case you will need to sign in to see the enable check box.
iMessages and SMS messages from when you were not signed in will not be shown now that you have signed in. Messages does not retroactively obtain messages. Now that you have signed in, new messages will be delivered correctly.
