I substituted a MacbookPro 13" HDD with a Corsair SSD and upgraded the RAM to 8GB.
I did a fresh install of OS X Mavericks but when the machine reboots (restarts), it shows a flashing folder with a question mark and doesn't detect the SSD. If I shut down the machine and switch it on then everything is OK, but on restart it can not detect the SSD and shows the flashing folder!

How can I fix the problem?
You probably have one of the following enabled that could explain the power drain.
Power Nap or Wake on WiFi, disable them,
or read the small print that says what it will do in sleep :)
Also as said earlier, open the Console and type "Wake" in the search window of the Console.
Now look who and what is waking it up and what is it for what reason and what is it doing about it.
As for your question why is it consuming more power, well you added more lights to the Christmas tree.
For example when HDD sleeps it does not consumes any power. The cussing SSD does consume power since it reshuffle it self from time to time, that is normal for SSD to refresh its memory cells.
UPDATE:
according to apple, you computer does not support the Power Nap mode settings thus enable/disable activity during the sleep.
So back to the Console reports:
Type "Wake" and look what is waking it up or keeping it awake based on time stamps.
Going on a limb, I would say it is your Trim support for the SSD, that you will find in the Console.
The TRIM command is an important disk command for SSDs that keeps your flash memory appropriately cycled so that you can achieve faster read and write speeds, as well as a longer lifespan for your SSD.
Either the Mac OS X installation is corrupt and won't startup the computer or your hard drive is faulty, physically.
You could try to connect another Mac to your mac via Firewire or Thunderbolt in Target Disk mode to actually see something.
That's what the Target disk mode is made for.
You could also try booting from the original DVD/USB, then run Disk Utility. If you can see the hard drive in the list, try repairing the disk.

Two possible causes for your troubles as I see it with the information provided is that either the bless command for the SSD is corrupted or your NVRAM is corrupted.
Have you tried reseting the NVRAM/PRAM? This is done by holding down opt + cmd + p + r right after you power the Mac. Hold these four keys down until you hear the boot chime for the third time after which you can let go and your system will have cleared out what it boots to by default.
That is only the first portion of the fix because it will boot quicker now (or should) but you need to tell your system to boot to the SSD. Go into System Preferences and then Startup Disk as Kent suggest and highlight the SSD. At this point I even go far enough to tell Startup Disk to restart... This will test it immediately and you can let us now if that resolved the troubles you are having.
If not then you might have a damaged OS or some corrupted settings that are making your restarts unclean. I love a program called Onyx for clearing caches and Saved Application States. Try that out if issue remains and holler back if need be. http://www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.php
