Macbook connects to modem, internet works, but modem -> router, no internet

I'm running a netgear modem CG3000D, and have been able to access internet without problems. However my speeds on the internet were slow for gaming and extensive usage, so I purchased a netgear R6250 WiFi router to increase speed and range.

My modem will connect to the router no problem, and my Macbook can connect to the router (with a different WiFi network name now), however there is absolutely no internet access now.

I'm not fluent in Mac operations yet, so I'm not sure what to do or where to go to fix this problem.

I tried airport utility but it can't find the router? Not sure what to do here.

Disabling the WiFi Signal on the Netgear CG3000D WiFi Cable Modem

You may have a standalone router that you would like to continue to use and are having problems with connecting to your router. The device may be causing a conflict because the router portion of the device is also active. You can turn off the WiFi network of the device, turning it into a modem only, and be able to use your router without an issue.

Completing this procedure disables the SSID for the Netgear CG3000D Home Device. This allows customers to use their own standalone wireless router.

It is quite normal to see a real difference between 802.11b, g and n wireless networks. The maximum network speed you can reach on this 3 different standards are:

On the other hand, 802.11b, g and n use different radio channels. You may consider these channels as different roads with different speed limits and different amounts of traffic. Some of these channels may be free when others may be congested.

Web access via Ethernet broken but Airport to same router works fine

It could be an duplex mismatch problem: small packets, like the ones ping sends, get through while large packets (as generated when browsing the web) get delayed or lost, which leads to poor performance.

This problem may arise either when the autonegotiation process between your Mac Mini and the Netgear minihub fails or when speed/duplex mode are set manually and don't match at both ends.

To solve the problem you first need to check the Ethernet settings:

Open System Preferences>Network, select Ethernet from the list on the left and click Advanced....
Select the Hardware tab.

Then:

If configure is set to "Automatically":

autonegotiation is on. Change it to "Manually" and try different Speed and Duplex settings, for example:

until the problem is gone. Note that you must press OK for the settings to take effect.
If configure is set to "Manually", change it to "Automatically" and test.
If nothing helps, try another hub or connect your Mac directly to the router. If that solves the problem replace your hub.
