There seems to be no legit drivers available for the Canon MF4420w imageclass printers which dont seem to work.

Somewhat of a hidden feature, you might want to try resetting the printing system.
- Go to the Print and Scan preference pane.
- Right click in the list of available printers (mine's empty).
- Select "Reset printing system...".
Have you installed the latest Mountain Lion ready drivers for the unit?
When you are adding the printer, what options are you using to choose the drivers?
If you choose "Auto Select" from the "Use" drop down that may be your issue.
If you choose "Select Printer Software" does the Canon software show?

That happens with Canon but also with HP printers as far i know
Your printer is not from this world! :)
What I mean by that it is not supported on USA sites.
But the good news is it is supported on Asian sites.
So go here and get your driver.
