I received MacBook Air for Christmas. I am a university student, and use Word for essay writing. It seems that this MacBook has 'Pages'. I post my essays online through a specific way, as they calculate if my work is acceptable etc. I don't know if my lecturers will be able to open the essay documents, especially if I've typed it from this laptop.
Is there any way I can make sure they will be able to access my work? Do I need to buy specific office sources, or will this be ok to use?
Office 2011 for Mac is very much like Office 2010 on Windows. You'll see the same equation button in the Ribbon, and more buttons while you're editing an equation. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Plus, you can always download a trial version of Office 2011 to make sure your files will be compatible!
From the macrumors forums you can hold shift when you launch a program to launch it without the resume previous window functionality.
Alternatively, for those who want some resume functionality and don't want to globally disable it, you can hold Shift when you launch an application to bypass resume and start that app fresh.
If that doesnt work you can turn off the function globally by going to System Preferences -> General and unticking "Restore windows when quitting and reopening apps"

Pages can export to Word format, but it does not make sense to use this app when the people grading your work are using Word for Windows, because you cannot predict what sorts of incompatibility problems will arise. By all means get Word for Mac and use that instead.
