MacBook – add 16 gigs to the 13 inch non-Retina MacBook Pro

The latest updates to MBPs non-retina say they can support upto 8 gigs of RAM. I had a mid-2011 13 inch MBP which I upgraded to 16 gigs.

The 13 inch MBP has 2 RAM slots. Has anyone successfully added 16 gigs to this version MBP? Is it possible?

The 2011 Mac MacBook Pros have an Apple specified (as you found) maximum amount of RAM as 8GB. The "real world" tests all show that the 2011 MacBook Pros actually have a maximum amount of 16GB of RAM. See below for several examples. This has been somewhat common practice for Apple over the years, where there specs will show a maximum of X but the real world tests and reviews all confirm a maximum of Y.

Your initial 8GB DIMM was probably faulty. Had it been functioning properly your Mac should have recognized all 16GB of memory. There are no technical reasons or firmware restrictions that would keep your Mac from recognizing the full 16GB.

MacBook – Durability of plastic screen on latest Retina Macbook Pro

It's glass and it is just as durable. Since they removed a layer between the glass and the actual display, it's thiner And the glass is closer to the display.

Every screen has this effect. You just need to press harder ;)

Fingerprints are less of an issue than on my old non-retina MBP imho
