I was trying to get emacs minimap to work on the terminal – http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/MiniMap
However, the font is the same size as the rest of the screen, which makes it pretty useless. It seems to be the same in iTerm.
The standalone Emacs.app works, but I'd rather not use it.
Is there a mac terminal which supports multiple fonts?
Open a terminal window and type some of the text whose color you want to set the background the same as. Then open Terminal preferences.
Click the Window tab and then the Background Color. This brings up a color picker window. Click the magnifying glass in the upper left and move it over the text you want to match the color with. When you click on the text this will set the color you want. You could also set it directly in the RGB slider panel shown in the 2nd image which matches the text color from your image in the question.
Try to clear and rebuild your font cache with the following:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
sudo atsutil server -shutdown
sudo atsutil server -ping
The above is "my standard answer" to font problems.
After your reply, I tried to download the font too. Installed it and in the Terminal.app got the same result as you. So +1 to the question - I'm interested too.
So,
after it, for the test:
so again for ttf - and have a working version in my Terminal.app
Haven't any idea why the otf version does not work. ;(

I don't think it'll be possible - terminal-based applications (as those running in terminal emulators like Terminal.app, iTerm.app, etc are) don't support multiple concurrent fonts. This is because a terminal application is written to run on a traditional dumb terminal which wouldn't have the concept of multiple fonts. Within a terminal emulator, all text is displayed in the same font and this is why the sidebar doesn't look as it should.
The only solution is to use a version of Emacs running under either Cocoa/Carbon (eg, Emacs.app or Aquamacs) or X11.
