Mac – How to hide photos in Finder

I am using the most current version of my Mac (OS X El Capitan). While I am not at all tech savvy, I have been saving some photos I would rather not everyone allowed to see in folders under my Finder. I have not locked the folder yet, but I notice all my photos that I am hiding under photos show up under "All My Files", I am wondering if there is a way to have these photos NOT show up under All My Files and only be saved in those folders.

The simplest solution is not to allow other people to access your user account. If other people, (work colleagues, family members, friends, etc,) need to use your computer, create separate user accounts for them, or utilize the Guest account. If you have enabled System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Options > Automatic login to login to your user account on startup, disable it now and use your Username or User icon and your password to login. Giving access to your user account to anybody who uses your computer is not a "best practice" and leaves your computer open to malicious or unintentional damage, as well as diminishing your privacy.

Hiding files one by one is trivial:

 chflags hidden /path/to/*\.aux

I haven't seen a way to implement all the logic required to do what you ask, but I have seen people make up smart folders to show only specific files in a folder that match the good extensions. If your list of places where you want to filter is small, that effort will be less than scripting the hide tool you need.

Have you ruled out configuring latex to put all auxiliary files in a hidden subdirectory/folder that you name with a dot like .tmp? This is shown here for pdflatex -output-directory=\.tmp

Alternatively, you could use a make tool like rubber or latexmk to either run your custom hide script or even discard those files when you compile successfully. You’d only then need to mark in some way what folders get the hidden treatment.

MacOS – Git plug-in for Finder

SnailGit is close (but not free) alternative to TortoiseGit that works for mac. It does displays badges directly in Finder. And it has right-click git menu for operations on repositories.

Free version is limited to one folder.
