mac-miniserial number
Do Mac mini come with a unique serial number? How do I find it?
It is a model without optical drive.

You have a recent generation of Mac mini. They come without the Optical Drive.
To determine the serial number of your Mac mini (or any Mac for that matter), click on the menu item in the Menu Bar, select About This Mac. You will see the serial number mentioned in the window that opens. This window will also specify the model and year of your Mac mini.
Alternatively, on your Mac mini, you can also spot the serial number printed on the metal frame towards the bottom of the machine. For instructions, you can refer this Apple Support Document, Mac mini: How to find the serial number.
Go to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist. Open this with TextWrangler or a similar utility. Look for a DisplaySerialNumber key with an integer value that isn't 0. With any luck, this should be the s/n of your display. If you haven't used this display for a while, the records of it may be gone. Also, it appears that this isn't guaranteed. Double-check if possible.
How to get the serial numbers for iPods:
Open /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ipod.plist.
Look under the Devices dictionary. Any iPod you've connected will have all its info there, including the s/n (under Serial Number).
The battery serial number is recorded in 4 places I have seen:
Physically on the battery (and optionally on the box if you purchased the battery in a box as a separate item)
In system profiler when the battery is installed in a running mac.
I have asked at the genius bar from time to time for them to look and see if there are records from when the mac was built in the factory. From time to time a client needs to know what hard drive or what battery came with a specific mac and that information is sometimes available.
Saved to the filesystem - use spotlight to look for files that have the mac's serial number. System profiler will save all hardware as a text/rtf/xml file if asked to. Some crash reports squirrel away a copy of that information so if you look, it might be there even if you didn't save it explicitly.
