IPhone – Bluetooth connects, but does not play sound

I've got a Toyota Sienna that has a bluetooth connection for phone audio. I purchased the GTA Car Kit to connect to the stereo. This works great with Android devices. However, I've recently switched to an iPhone 6. While it will show that it is connected to GTA Car Kit, it almost never actually plays audio over it. How can I resolve this? It does work fine for the phone audio, and any other bluetooth device I connect it to.

I have the same problem. I have a GTA Pure Bluetooth system in my 2007 Honda Civic. I have an iPhone 5S that connects automatically to play music about 5-10% of the time. To work around, I have to go into iPhone Settings, Bluetooth, select the ! symbol next to GTA Car Kit, Disconnect, back up one level and reselect GTA Car kit and it then connects 100% of the time. Kind of a pain.

It is almost like there are two levels of Bluetooth connectivity. My phone connects perfectly 100% of the time but my music does not connect much at all. In iPhones, look for the tiny headphone icon in the top-right corner of the screen when you have successfully connected to play music.

Howto disable A2DP on the iPhone

The interesting directory is /var/mobile/Library/Preferences, where the iPhone stores the BlueTooth settings. These settings are stored in the PLIST format, so you need a PLIST editor (Mac or PC) or you need to convert them by hand. Transfer the com.apple.MobileBluetooth.services.plist to your computer or you can use iFile to edit the file on your iPhone directly.

Open the com.apple.MobileBluetooth.services.plist in your PLIST editor and make sure you edit the A2DPService section and store the devices you don’t want to use A2DP in the UnauthorizeList (without the letter “d”). This dictionary will probably not exist yet, so you need to add it by hand. You need to know the MAC address, but it is probably listed already in this file.

Transfer the PLIST file back to your iPhone and reboot the device. Once it gets back on, then the A2DP service should be disabled.

Apparently a lot of headset devices can maintain a list of several devices. So did my Skull Candy Ink'd Wireless.

The trick to reset this list, was to power up the device and hold - and + for a few (5?) seconds till you hear a strange beep. Then I paired again and the auto-connect worked again.

My guess is that it didn't like to be connected to multiple iPhones and got confused somehow.
