When I'm trying to install a free app on my iPod, it'll say:

Before you can make purchases, you must tap continue to verify your payment info.
Why do I see this when it's free?

If you entered credit card information in the past you can dissociate it from your Apple ID as follows.
On an iOS device
Open Settings.
Tap iTunes & App Stores:
Tap your account and select "View Apple ID".
Select
Payment information:
Select
None:
Confirm with
Done.
On a Mac
Open App Store.app:
Select menu Store>View My Account.
In the Apple ID Summary section locate the Payment Information line and click
Edit >:
Select
Noneas payment method:
Click
Doneto confirm.
If you don't see a "none" option, you may need to disable family sharing and then try the above steps again.
Generally verification comes up for one of two reasons:
- Your previously-supplied payment information failed for your last purchase
- You are using a device which has never purchased (or downloaded, for free apps) anything from the App Store with your account before.
Most likely it is the second one. Going through the payment verification process does not charge your payment method, it simply verifies it is valid. Once completed you can complete the download of your free app.
