IOS – save an HTML file to the iPhone and open in Safari

Does anyone know if its possible to save an HTML file to your iphone and then open it with Safari so that you can then favourite it and have it appear on the launcher as an icon?

Once the page is opened on your iPhone all you have to do is tap the Sharing icon, middle icon on bottom, and select 'Add to Home Screen'

If you want to load an html file that you've created on you Mac to your iPhone you'll need to do the following. From System Prefs > Sharing > Enable Web Sharing. Place the html file in your ~/Sites folder. Go the the URL listed in the Web Sharing panel from your iPhone, while on the home network, and open the html file. It will load in Mobile Safari.

If you want this to stay on your iPhone you'll need to have the page written in html5 and have a properly setup CACHE MANIFEST. This includes the appropriate tag in the html file and have the proper manifest file. Then you can follow the first step and add it to your home screen and always have it on your iPhone.

XAMPP has long since been a staple of simple personal web hosting by Windows-using friends' of mine. Allow me to repeat this, I have NEVER used XAMPP myself, it only comes recommended by friends of mine.

This gist of this process is that you need a web server running on port 80 on your desktop machine. And you also need to know what it's internal IP addresses is.

Assuming you use XAMPP, download it, get it installed and configured to run on port 80. Check to ensure Windows Firewall opened up port 80 for it. Next, drop your web files into XAMPP's web serving directory.

Then, fire up your iPhone, and open Safari. Browse to your computer's IP address / index.html or the file's given filename. (Ex: 192.168.0.8/page.html)

Although this is an old question, it's still relevant, and here is the answer:

pbpaste -Prefer rtf | textutil -stdin -convert html -output outputfile.html

This uses the built-in OS X pbpaste utility to pipe the contents of the clipboard to stdout (-Prefer rtf is probably unnecessary but doesn't hurt), then runs it through the built-in textutil program. The -stdin argument makes textutil take its input from pbpaste; -convert html tells it to turn the input into HTML; and -output outputfile.html tells it to write the output to a file called outputfile.html.

If you find that the output has some unnecessary elements, you can exclude them with -excludedelements; for example, -excludedelements '(span, font, head, xml)'. Note that you need to have the single quotes because your shell will try to interpret the parentheses as a special shell expression.
