I just switched over to the new Gmail inbox with the smartlabel filters. Now whenever a social, promotions, updates or forums email comes in I get a notification on iOS from the Mailbox app. Previously I would just get notifications for "real" inbox emails. How can I continue to only receive iOS notifications for these?

- You have to buy Ultimate Notifier from the AppStore. $2.99 at the moment.
- Create a free account on their site or through the app.
- Login to the web interface on your computer and under Add Notification select Add Gmail / Google Mail - NEW Priority Inbox
- Complete the fields username and password with your Gmail username and password. (I know this is a BIG leap of faith.)
- Save.
- Log in to the app on your iPhone to receive push notifications
Well, in Mail 4.5 (on Snow Leopard) it's easy: add a condition "Message is in Mailbox" to your smart mailbox's filter. In my case, that "Gmail" mailbox is a sub-box of the (unified) Inbox.

As these emails are really in your inbox, you will receive notifications for them. My only suggestion is to use the gmail app in place of the ios mail app. The google gmail app allows you to specify for which folders you receive notifications for all new mail or 'primary only'.
