With the release of iOS 5 mail can now appera as a pop up box style notifacation.
Goto Settings>Notifications>Mail> the choose "Alerts" in the alert style menu.
you will then have something that looks like a message notification when an email arrives
- Open the notification centre
- Press the little cog icon on the bottom right
- Find your application in the list
- Select your application and unselect "Show in notification center".

There's currently no native way to do this, but there are a couple of ways to do this with 3rd party apps:
Notifyr ($4). This will allow you to recieve push notifications from any app on your iOS device with your Mac. There are some base system requirements, so thee the web page for full details.
ForwardNotifier (Free). This requires you to jailbreak your phone but you will be able to get your push notification on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
