I've an iPhone 4 and I've installed iOS 5 on it. Since then, whenever I receive a text message or an app notification, the tone plays like "tre..tre..tre..tre..te..tre..tre…tring". Sometimes it takes a whole 5 to 7 secs for the sound to be complete.
At first, I thought it's because of the beta; but I guess they should've fixed it by now as it is already some Beta 3 if I'm not wrong!
Does anyone know any settings change/fixes that can fix it?
Yes, you can, you just have to do some digging around to find the particular one that is causing the noise. If you go into your Settings application on your iDevice, and go into the Notifications Options Tab and look for apps that have the sounds attribute available. As seen the in the screen shot below highlighted in red.
Selecting that one will take you further into the customizations and see if the app is sending other notifications, as shown below, this one does sound and badge and can be seen in the lock screen. Toggling those on and off will help you find the culprit.
You will be looking for an App that is only making noise, look for one that says noise only and everything else is turned off, that one will most likely be the problem. You can then turn on other notifications so that it will be more helpful. If you find more than one app that is noise only, enable more notification types to help you narrow down which one it is. Once you find it, you can disable it or change the setting any which way you want.

To disable the feature do the following:
Open Settings > Phone > SIM Applications then turn off the CallerXChange Service or anything similiar to that.

Ok, I had the exact same issue after updating to IOS 5, SMS tones sounded like a stuck record and very garbled. Solution is back-up your iphone then do a complete restore and at the end set up as a new iphone NOT backup from previous. The back-up can cause glitches when 1st updating from 4.3.5 to 5. Then unplug and plug back in and right click your iphone and do a "restore from back-up" after the setup as new iphone. Hope that helps for you as it did for me.
