IOS – iPod no wireless networks problem

My daughter has an iPod Touch 4th generation I think it is with iOS 6. We have a problem with it whereby it doesn't show any wireless networks at all. Previously, it connected fine and would show networks available without issue.

Note: Like a lot of iPods it has been dropped in the past and ended up with a cracked screen which has been replaced.

On the two most used networks, I've restarted the routers to no avail.

The only network it 'sees' is when I turn my iPhone 5 into a personal hotspot. It then sees and connects to that wireless network.

I've also tried manually entering the SSID details of the two home networks but it immediately returns something along the lines of 'Cannot connect to …'.

Additionally, when first going into Settings>Wi-Fi it briefly displays the circular 'I'm doing something' next to the 'Choose a Network' text but then disappears.

I've obviously restarted the iPod and Reset Network Settings.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

lets try this one step at a time, first go in to your settings- general, then scroll down to reset and tap reset all network settings this will remove all your previous passwords and internet connections. then just for the hell of it, reboot!

Okay, so this solved the issue for me. Could ber completely wrong because my fix isnt ipod/Iphone related, although the same proplems described above have happened to my ipod.

*Please note: Precedure will vary for other routers. These instructions are specific to Netgear DGN2000 Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem.

Step 1. Using your computer, log into your routers login/Manager page. my default login address is * http://192.168.0.1 *

Step 2. Under setup (on the left hand side) click Wireless Settings.

Step 3. In the first section under "Wireless Network" there is a sub-heading "Mode".

Select the desired wireless mode. The options are:

* g & b   - Both 802.11g and 802.11b wireless stations can be used.
* g only   - Only 802.11g wireless stations can be used.
* b only   - All 802.11b wireless stations can be used. 802.11g wireless stations can still be used if they can operate in 802.11b mode.
* Up to 130 Mbps   - Wireless stations that support up to 130 Mbps can be used, such as the WN511B. In this case, your router will transmit two streams with different data in the same channel at the same time.
* Up to 270 Mbps   - Wireless stations that support up to 270 Mbps can be used, such as the WN511B. Your router will run in channel expansion mode to achieve 270Mbps. This mode will support 40MHz or 20MHz bandwidth. The router will transmit data with expansion or no expansion frame by frame to avoid interference from other APs/clients data transmission.

The default is "Up to 130 Mbps", which allows all 11b and 11g wireless stations. The NETGEAR WN511B runs at 126 Mbps or 270 Mbps when accessing this router.

Mine was set on "Up to 270 Mbps" mode. the iPod/iPhone's do not support this mode very well.

THe best choice i found was the "Up to 130 Mbps" mode. My iPod connected straight away and has worked perfectly with my hidden network.

Step 4. Be sure to save and apply your settings.

I'm afraid you're completely right. Apple does even make a statement on its website about it:

However, there are some alternatives.
But since there is no way to come up with a work around on this problem, 3rd party software, like Undercover allows you to store the latest locations of an iDevice. Where Find my iPod touch will only show you the current location (it doesn't show a history of locations I think), Undercover will save its latest location, as they say on their FAQ page:

What happens if Undercover is launched when a phone is not connected to the net? Will it still transmit its location?

If Undercover is launched on an offline device (no 3G or Wi-Fi), its location is saved. As soon as the device goes online and Undercover is launched again, saved locations will be transmitted.
