IOS – If iOS’s filesystem is case-sensitive then why can’t I save a.pages and A.pages

When I try to save document in Pages.app on iOS with the same name but a different case I get:

"a" is already taken. Please choose a different name.

I would expect that this would work if iOS is case-sensitive.

HFS+ is not case-sensitive. It is, however, case-preserving.

Your problem is not a problem, it is working as designed.

According to this question, Photoshop CS5 won't work on HFSX.

As asked and answered on stackoverflow, there's an easier way to do this that doesn't involve making a new file system in a disk image file:

Move your existing file aside, commit that move, then move it back using the case you'd like it to maintain and commit. Done.

Example:

mv foo foo2
git add -A
git commit -m "renaming"
mv foo2 FOO
git add -A
git commit --amend -m "renamed foo to FOO"
