That must be probably obvious, but I can't seem to figure out how to delete the table name. Only the hide option is available.
Cannot delete the name (only Hide is available). Is there a way to do that?
Thanks to your sample file, I think I was able to do what you wished.
Using an additional column to bring in the numbers corresponding to the codes (16AA, 1; 16AE, 2...) sorting by that column then hiding it the desired result was accomplished. To refresh the sort after adding data, unhide the column and sort again.
Here are the steps:
Create new column to the left of the "Code" column.
Add a formula to extract the proper number for each code and copy down.
Formula: =INDEX (Group::c, MATCH (B, Group::A))
(Using INDEX(MATCH) is a good way to get column data with out worrying about extra columns being added as is the case with VLOOKUP.)

I have resolved this issue. (More accurately Apple Support did.)
After adding spreadsheets to iTunes, you need to go to Numbers on the iPad. Select Spreadsheets, click "+" and select "Copy from iTunes" in the pop up menu.
I am not sure when this changed, as they used to appear automatically.

Every table must have a name and it can't be deleted. This isn't very apparent with simple spreadsheets but formulas that reference other tables use the table name to find the cell. The table name can't be removed as its required for these cross-table formulas.
I recommend naming all your tables, even if you then hide the table name, so that you don't end up with a bunch of formulas referencing table 7 from table 4 and table 6 from table 2.
