IOS – AirDrop Photo Wrong

When I open AirDrop on my Mac (10.12.2), my iPhone (10.2) shows up but the picture is wrong. I'm not even sure who it is or where it comes from.

My wife's picture is correct though. I've checked my Contact Card on both my Mac and my iPhone and they both have the correct photo of me.

Airdrop appears to use the picture stored in iCloud. To change it

Open System Preferences
Open the iCloud preference pane
Click the picture to change it.

I found the answer. Something in the side bar preferences was messing with the system. I deleted this file from the 2013 MBP (which could not see the other machine or network drives):

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

and rebooted.

Then everything came back online and started working.

IPhone – Airdrop Name is Incorrect

Step one on the Mac might be to sign out of iCloud. AirDrop uses that.

Before doing anything, make a full backup of the Mac. Then check for other user accounts on the Mac in system preferences. Once you're sure your account is the one doing the naming for airdrop, you can see if your iCloud contact details are correct and sign out (deleting any iCloud data on the Mac when prompted since that data is in the cloud) and then sign back in to iCloud.

Worst case, once you've singed back in, check the Contacts app and check that "your card" is really your information. Search for "My Card" in contacts app help if you aren't sure how to find that menu option.
