If a person adds a new e-mail account to imessage would it then come up as a different thread or contact in my iPhone?
I received a message today from somebody I imessage and text daily, today when they imessaged it came up as a completely new text and an email address instead of a continuation of old conversation as it normally does, does this mean it is coming from a new phone number using e-mail account for messaging?
are there any other possibilities as to why this would occur?
Go to settings on the iPhone. Go to the 'Messages' settings. And select Receive At.
See what it says there. It should be your phone number not Apple ID or email.
If you have a Apple email listed. You can remove it by.
Clicking the 'Apple ID youremail@me.com'
You will get a popup which lets sign out thus removing the mac email address.
My experience is you cannot actually delete an iMessage once and have it delete elsewhere.
You can only delete the local cached copy of a message to suppress it being showed/stored on that one device. If you turn off iMessage and turn it back on, you will see the messages from iCloud come back whether you deleted a message or not.

Please, check if that new phone number is in your address book. I found that having all iMessage numbers and emails in the same contact card solves this issue.
