A few days ago, my IMAP files were sent to the trash (if I did it, it was by accident, but I really don't remember doing it…) So the main file is there in the trash but I cannot scroll down the files, and its greyed out. And also I cannot recover the files, or put them back on the inbox!! Any ideas?

Mail.app doesn't automatically check for mail every time focus is put on it's window or every time the computer wakes up. There are several ways for you to configure how, and how often Mail.app synchronizes with servers:
Mail menu and then selecting Preferences. Under General change the Check for new Messages configuration.
This way you never have to wait more then 1 minute for mail to be synced. Keep in mind, if you are on battery, this will impact battery life negatively.
I've faced the same problem trying to set up my wife's Hotmail account in Mail.app. After much fiddling I eventually gave up and used POP3 instead.
About the only suggestion out there that I didn't try was trimming down the inbox (she had, I believe, 3k+ emails in her inbox), since some people reported solving the problem by getting their inboxes down to, say, 100 emails or so. I didn't even bother trying that solution since it seems so fragile -- what happens when she receives new email above the magic threshold that breaks IMAP? Is it just going to break again?
Much as it pains me to say this, it appears POP3 is the way to go for Hotmail/outlook.com/etc. accounts. IMAP appears to be simply broken.

i took away the IMAP prefix in settings : imap.secureserver.net left it blank and now it works again.
