IMac – Installing Windows 10 Bootcamp on 27 iMac (2015): USB 3.0 problem

I'm trying to install Windows 10 on my iMac. I've gotten to the part where Windows setup asks for the bootcamp drivers, before Windows is installed ("Collecting information"). I've tried having the bootcamp drivers on both a usb 2.0 and a usb 3.0 external hard drive, and I still get the following error:

"No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok"

I've digged a bit and found that the issue is a USB 3.0 issue, according to many. All the iMac USB's are 3.0, so what is the solution here ? I don't have an SD card or a thunderbolt drive.

Actually if you look on Apples website they have updated about bootcamp 6.0.1 on El Capitan. All 2015 models do not need a USB stick to put Windows 10 ISO in. All 2015 Mac models from Macbook, Air, Pro, Mac Pro, and iMac do not need USB with Windows 10 ISO. You can simply download Windows 10 ISO file, put it on desktop, open bootcamp. Apple website says that all 2015 Macs have the install Mac bootcamp uploader files for Windows within a private partition that uploads after installing Windows and gets to start menu desktop. If you want to read more of what I just told go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468 It states right on there that 2015 Macs do not need USB for Windows 10 install on bootcamp anymore.

This doesn't exactly answer your question but may help solve your problem: create a bootable Windows DVD from the Windows 8 setup files, as explained here.

I did it myself some months ago when upgrading Windows XP to Windows 8, and it worked without a hitch.

You will need:

Access to a Windows computer.
oscdimg.exe, a command-line tool for creating bootable Windows ISO files. This file is part of a larger download:
- For Windows XP SP2 with KB926044/2003 SP1 with KB926044/2003 SP2 you'll need the Automated Installation Kit at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10333
- For Windows 8/7/2012/2008 R2/Vista/2008 you'll need the Assessment and Deployment Kit at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652

The steps are:

Download and install oscdimg.exe.
Put the Windows 8 setup files in a folder. While any name will do I found C:\WIN8AIO to be a popular choice, so I'll use it.
Open a command prompt as administrator and create the ISO image C:\WIN8DVD.ISO like this:

\path\to\oscdimg.exe -lWIN8DVD -t10/26/2012:00:00 -m -u2 -bC:\WIN8AIO\boot\etfsboot.com C:\WIN8AIO C:\WIN8DVD.ISO

Burn C:\WIN8DVD.ISO and use it with Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac.

Windows – Installing Windows manually

What you need is the refit tool. Then on the Mac (via DiskUtil) shrink/resize your Mac partition and create a partition for Windows in the free space.

Then, via Refit (on the Refit boot menu under tools), sync the Mac partition table and MBR-partitions (this will create a windows-readable MBR type partition map that matches the partitions you created on the Mac).

Then just boot from a Windows CD and install in the new partition. Do NOT modify the partitions (adding, removing, etc.) from Windows though.
