I often "reverse outline" my work by printing out my file, numbering the paragraphs by hand, and then making an "outline" of my essay/piece which then will help me to conceptualize what I am doing – and how to rework it. Is there a way to automatically add numbers for paragraphs in Word so I don't have to do it by hand? I know that you can add automatic numbering for lines but I can't figure out how to do it for paragraphs.

So, it looks like Outlook for Mac 2011 is incapable of proposing updates for meetings sent by other people (or, for meetings sent by Outlook for Windows users), regardless of standard permissions.
Looks like this is another missing feature alongside voting buttons and easy calendar sharing requests. In Outlook for Windows you can propose updates that the organiser can accept or reject; in Outlook for Mac there seems to be nothing like this.
This is based on the fact there are 'Send update' options seemingly only for meetings that you are the organiser of:
It looks like the only possibility is to decline the meeting, then send your own - or, if that's not an option (which will be true any time it's not appropriate to just become the new meeting organiser), you need to email the organiser (e.g. in a 'Decline' comment) and ask them to do it for you.
A bit rubbish because, if they're a Windows user, they'll think you're a fool who can't find the 'Propose new time' button, and they'll think you're wasting their time asking them to do simple tasks for you...
One workaround is to assign a keyboard shortcut to inserting an equation. This only gets you the ability to type an equation, not use the Equation Tools in the Ribbon. You can also get the Equation Editor to open in a separate window via assigning a keyboard shortcut. If this workaround is sufficient for you, it's fully documented here.
There is a third-party application called MathType for editing equations, and it works with many applications including Word:Mac. If you know TeX/LaTeX, you can type that into MathType and it works magically. However ... it doesn't work in the Notebook Layout View either. I asked them about it via Twitter, and they said this:
No, but only because of the types of items Word allows to be inserted in Notebook Layout View. No editable objects, only static.
Don't forget to tell Microsoft that you want the full power of the Equation Editor (or MathType) in Word:Mac. In Word's Help menu, there's a "Send Feedback About Word" link. Tell them what you're doing and why this matters to you.

Use the built-in Heading paragraph styles: apply these to your headings, and they will be numbered automatically. If you do this you can also generate a table of contents (to use as your outline).
