Error -36 “some data can’t be read or written” when copying files from SD card

I want to copy files from my SD card to my Desktop but for some of the files I get:

The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “GOPR0054.MP4” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)

I tried to use dot_clean because it seems to have done the trick for others:

dot_clean Path/To/Directory

Didn't work.

I have no idea what error -36 is or how it can be solved.
My SD card is in ExFAT format (if that matters).

I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.2.

Not true; it's a privacy issue with the xfat format. You can copy the files via terminal: mv plus space, drag the file, plus drag the destiny. If that doesn't work, you'll have to change the format of the file.

Is the file you're trying to copy using a resource fork?

If you're dealing with .DS_Store file issues run the following command in Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

If you're having issues with resource forks on Snow Leopard you may need to change your settings for the streams setting in smb.conf on the Linux machine or nsmb.conf on your local Mac. (._FILENAME files are the resource forks of the file). Check out Super User for more details on this.

Unable to delete a file

Try deleting interactively to avoid deleting too much since these characters match one or many/no characters - you can answer y or n as needed as each file comes up for deletion...

e.g.

sudo rm -i 2011.09.0?*

If you can't get the wildcard right, move everything else out of the folder in question, go one directory level up and rm -r <foldername>.
