From what I've seen it seems like the basic hotkeys do not allow such a thing, besides if I use the following command on the terminal :
screencapture -ci somepath/screenshot.jpg
It only copies the screenshot to the clipboard but doesn't create the file screenshot.jpg at all (-c copies to clipboard and -i makes the user select a rectangle region to capture)

What is you create an Automator script to take a screen capture, and then run that using the terminal?
Similar to what is described in this TUAW article, however, without the part that mails the screen capture to you.
Save the Automator script as an application, SSH in, and run open /path/to/the/automator.app
Don't know any applications that do what you're after but here's a couple of alternative options for you. Second two won't pause the video but will give you instant capture.
Use Grab - its the OSX 10.6 native screen capture app under /applications/utilities. It has the option to grab the current window (or selected region or entire screen).
