Bootcamp keyboard driver not installing

I am assuming that this is an bug, but I thought I would check with you all first to see if that is the case.

I had been running OSX 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 and Windows 7 64x PRO. I reloaded it over Christmas, to re-partition my drive. When I reloaded, my function keys were not working. I upgraded my OSX side to Mountain Lion, downloaded bootcamp 4.0 and installed that on my Win7 side, still no joy.

Here is what is happening. My driver is not installing at all. Even when I go in and try to manually try to install the driver, it comes up with an error that says "install failed". I have tried everything, including removing all drivers, and reinstalling them, and all of the other basics.

To further muddy the waters, I borrowed an OSX dvd that had bootcamp 3.1 on it. I installed that keyboard driver. Now my internal keyboard works, just like it should, with all of the FN keys performing properly. However, when I try to point my Apple Bluetooth keyboard to use that driver, I simply get an error.

Bottom line is, the 4.0 keyboard driver will not install at all. Built in keyboard is working properly on an old driver. And my Apple bluetooth keyboard FN keys are not working. I am thinking it is a bug with the driver, but does anybody have any ideas for me?

Try downloading and installing the Bootcamp Windows Support Software from here. With 10.7, 10.8 it automatically prompts you to save the support software on a disk or USB to be installed with your Bootcamp, if you are still running Snow Leopard you may have to download it manually.

Before you do any of the steps mentioned below the line-break, check the bootcamp control panel first!!!

When in Windows, after everything is installed and done, do the following:

Click 'Start ' (the windows logo-button in the bottom left corner)
Type 'bootcamp'
Open the bootcamp control panel. It will ask for administrator privileges, say 'yes' or 'ok' or whatever
Configure the necessary settings for your startup disk, remote, keyboard and trackpad - these are the four tabs you should expect to see when the bootcamp control panel opens.

Your keyboard and trackpad should work (almost) perfectly. If not, read the answer that follows.

When you installed Windows the specific bootcamp drivers should have been installed automatically from your Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) DVD or 10.7 (Lion) DMG in the process. I would recommend trying to:

Remove/Delete the drivers in Windows Device Manager
Insert or mount the OSX DVD or DMG
Restart your system (booting into Windows).

The correct bootcamp drivers should then be installed automatically from the OSX DVD. If the drivers were not installed, browse for them on the OSX DVD.

If all else fails you can always try re-installing Windows, and from there should be able to determine during the process if you have keyboard functionality.

★ The key to having the correct drivers working in bootcamp is installing them specifically from the OSX DVD or DMG.

Keyboard lights work perfectly in both W7 and W8. (and Fn F5 and Fn F6 control the intensity)

Try reinstalling the WindowsSupport files (which reinstalls the keyboard driver), you should not lose T++ functionality, but if you do just reinstall it (Power Plan Assist reinstallation is not needed)

Sometimes after some sleep-wake cycles the dimmer function stops working (Pressing Fn F5-F6 brings up a gray panel with a disabled sign), rebooting fixes the problem.
